3 Things To Look For In A Good Preschool

Posted on: 7 December 2017

When it comes time for your child to attend preschool, it is important that you find a preschool program that is well suited to them. This can make all of the difference in the world for how they view preschool and even school in general because this is likely their first time attending any kind of school. Thankfully, there are certain things that you can look for and do to make sure that a preschool is a good fit for your child.

Small Class Sizes

One important thing to look for in a good preschool is small class sizes. The smaller the class size, the more one-on-one attention your child will get. There will also be less noise and distractions, which can make it much easier for your child to learn. When calling and viewing different preschools, ask about their class sizes and see if you feel that the class size will work well for your child. A preschool with smaller class sizes may cost more for your child to attend, but this money is generally well spent.

Solid Curriculum

Another important thing that the preschool should have is a solid curriculum. You want your child to be learning while they are at preschool, and in order for this to happen, the school must have a solid curriculum that they follow. Don't be afraid to ask for a breakdown of the curriculum so that you can see exactly what is taught at different times during the year. This helps you to see if the work will be challenging, but doable, for your child and if they will enjoy learning in this particular preschool.

Good Classroom Environment

While the class sizes and the curriculum are very important, the most important thing of all is generally the classroom environment. The classroom is where your child will be spending their time during preschool, so it is important that it is very warm and welcoming. When viewing the classroom, look at the setup of the tables and chairs, see what pictures and other items are on the walls for children to view and learn from, look at the toys, books, and other supplies located around the classroom, look at the location of the bathrooms and see if they are well suited for children, and look for anything else that you feel could affect your child's learning or overall experience. This helps you to feel confident that it is a good classroom environment for your child.

Going to preschool for the first time is a big deal, so you want to make sure that you find one for your child that has small class sizes so your child can learn, a strong curriculum that is challenging yet well suited to your child, and a good classroom environment for them to learn and grow in.
